Will There Be Another Series Of Red Dwarf?
Doug Naylor, Chloë Annett and Danny John-Jules answer
Red Dwarf co-creator and writer Doug Naylor, was in the city at the weekend, meeting fans of the show at Bristol Comic Con.
He took to the stage with Danny John-Jules – who played Cat – and Chloë Annett – who played Kristine Kochanski – in series 7 – 9.
Among the questions asked came the most anticipated – “Is there going to be any new Red Dwarf?”
Naylor said: “There are no plans in this moment in time. No Network has presently commissioned anything.
“UK TV commissioned a 90 minute special – I’ve said this story about 100 times today – 90 minute special. I was two thirds of the way through writing it and they contacted me to say they’d changed their minds and they were no longer commissioning scripted comedy because the only scripted comedy they commissioned was Red Dwarf. So therefore, they weren’t commissioning scripted comedy. Despite the fact that Red Dwarf was the most successful thing they’ve ever commissioned on their channel.”
