Experimental Show Immersion Therapy Aims To Shake Things Up

Exciting new ‘immersive’ and ‘experimental’ show to hit Clifton theatre this November

With so much Bristol-produced theatre being created and staged across the city’s venues major and fringe venues, It’s easy to overlook brand new and original work being produced by students at the University of Bristol.

Coming up this week is University of Bristol Spotlights’ brand new piece of theatre Immersion Therapy. It’s the first main show the society is staging this academic year.

The theatre company prides itself on being both ‘innovative and original’. Every production is written, directed, produced and acted by its students. It stages a variety of shows through the year saying it offers “the best opportunities for student writers to take their scripts to production.”

Immersion Therapy is written by Ollie Binnie, who was dazzling audiences with his outstanding performance of Billy Flynn, at Music Theatre Bristol only last month.

Ollie calls Immersion Therapy the most “experimental, immersive and non-narrative piece of theatre” to hit the university in years.

It’s a bold claim. But this is the same university that was the spring board for theatre makers Sadie Pearson and Hen Ryan who formed Full Frontal Theatre. Alongside Grace Shropshire, the trio have enjoyed success after success with shows clapping back at audiences the last couple of years.

Immersion Therapy “explores different stages of grief after a break up in completely new ways,” Ollie says.

Alongside experimental aspects of the show, audiences can expect a blend of thriller, comedy and drama.

The trailer for the show already looks like a really gripping piece of theatre.

Immersion Therapy is at The Winston Theatre from 12 -15 November 2025
