Preview: Mr Crispie by Boogie Nachts Theatre
Bristol’s Boogie Nachts Theatre brings a brand new show by company founders Lewis Cook and Vince Stadon to the Alma Tavern Theatre.
Mr Crispie first came to the Clifton theatre’s stage in 2025 at The Enturtling scratch night whilst undergoing development.
Now, the full show returns to the Alma Tavern Theatre this September. Director Naledi Withers takes the helm with actors Lewis Cook as PC Bothy, Emma Giles as Frances, Holly McPhee-Clarke as Cherry and Ciaran Corsar as Charles Reginald Ispe.
The play, described as a ‘murderously irreverent farce’ is set in post-war London. Lewis Cook and Vince Stadon have brought the eccentric world of Mr Crispie to life, merging two British obsessions – classic crime and offbeat comedy.
Mr Crispie tells Charles Reginald Ispe’s story. An unremarkable council officer with ambitions of going down in history as a famous serial killer. Despite having the perfect crime planned, he quickly finds the rug pulled out from beneath him when it comes to putting it into operation.
“We’ve travelled the high seas with Count Dracula, faced nuclear ghosts with the women of Greenham Common, and survived plague demons in Eyam. Now we invite the audience to confront the true face of evil – a middle-aged man who works in local government,” Vince Stadon says.
“It’s a show that celebrates the darkness and daftness inherent in British humour,” Lewis Cook adds.
Mr Crispie will be at the Alma Tavern Theatre 01 – 03 September 2026
