A Wall is a Screen Bristol Date For September
A Wall is a Screen: Secrets of the Old City is back again this month, rounding up a summer-long programme of film events in Bristol.
If you like a cinematic event with bags of outdoor evening atmosphere in one perfect quirky package, this is it. Throw in some interesting Bristol locations and bewildered expressions from people in nearby bars and you’ve got A Wall is a Screen.
Months later, we’re still pondering the animation we saw projected under the night sky in Leonard Lane. And laughing at the silly requests archivists get from members of the public.
The carefully curated selection includes a variety of styles and themes ranging from funny to profound, projected onto buildings by mobile cinema.
The event is presented by Encounters Festival, who brought Hamburg-based collective A Wall is a Screen to the city for the final event in Bristol’s Summer Film Takeover.
Rich Warren for Encounters Festival’s says: “We have wanted to bring over our friends, A Wall is a Screen, from Hamburg to Bristol for well over ten years, to share their vision of cinematic social engagement with Bristol’s vibrant film scene. Bristol’s Summer Film Takeover has been the perfect opportunity to do so. Don’t miss this second and final chance to be a part of an outdoor film experience to remember, the perfect precursor to Encounters Film Festival 2023 which kicks off on 27th September!”
Bristol UNESCO City of Film is behind the summer long film event in Bristol, which has seen mobile cinema, animation workshops and immersive events running since June.
Bristol UNESCO City of Film Manager, Natalie Moore said: “We’re delighted to present another chance to experience A Wall is a Screen: Secrets of the Old City, our closing event for Bristol’s Summer Film Takeover. It proved hugely popular when it first ran in June so we urge film lovers not to miss this second chance to see the city’s architecture become part of the fabric of the film-viewing experience. Our thanks to Encounters and A Wall is a Screen, and to every partner we’ve worked with to bring our Summer Film Takeover events to life across Bristol’s city centre over the past three months.”
A Wall is a Screen: Secrets of the Old City, takes place on Saturday 16 September at 8pm.
