Bath Theatre Company WhimsiCo Brings New Staging of Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde To Rondo Theatre
Theatre company brings fresh new take on the gothic horror
There’s been a lot of creative talent coming out of Bath Spa University in the last few years. There are certainly quite a few graduates making Bristol and Bath their home for creating new work as well as bringing creative flair to classic stories.
WhimsiCo Theatre are another new company staging work in the South West – having emerged as graduates from Bath Spa University.
This November they will be at The Rondo in Bath for a new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case Of Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
It’s been written by the company’s Artistic Director Lottie Dance. Lottie founded the company alongside Ewan Wyatt, who is the current Creative Producer. They have since been joined by other graduates of the university Charlotte Spiller and Morgan Waters.
WhimsiCo call the new adaptation ‘darkly decadent’ and ‘electrifying’.
It fits with the company’s brand of storytelling which aims to create stories full of ‘magic, nostalgia and whimsy’. WhimsiCo says their work will “tell tales that uplift us and take us back to the childhood wonder of a bedtime story.”
Escape To Wonderland was the company’s debut show, staged at The Rondo Theatre in March 2023. They quickly followed up with a second collaboration with folk duo Humm called Grimm. This saw a music-driven journey through traditional folk music and old fairytales.
The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde sees the company dive headfirst into the dark with the popular gothic horror.
“What happens when personal loyalty takes over morality, and where the line between good and evil blurs,” the company asks?
Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde will be at Rondo Theatre Bath from 05 – 08 November 2025
