Bristol Theatre Round-Up as Selected by Six Year Old Girl

What would a six year old girl like to see at the theatre? These are the selections made here:

It’s been very theatre heavy this week at Chopsy Baby, and here we have more about forthcoming productions visiting Bristol.

This time, we were inspired by the insight of a six year old girl who selectively chose a collection of leaflets for shows she decided were worthy of viewing. These are the shows that drew the attention of a child through their leaflet and marketing campaign and there are some very discerning choices!

English National Ballet – My First Ballet: Cinderella
We’ve seen a My First Ballet before and it was really good. Excerpts of the show are performed with a narrator on stage to help with the story line. This one is for Prokofiev’s Cinderella. The running time is 1 hour 30 minutes with an interval and ideal for children aged three years upwards.

Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Coppelia
The Birmingham Royal Ballet really is a treat to watch. We are lucky to have them back in Bristol again with Coppélia. Ballet is a no fuss no fidget experience so is only suitable for children who can manage to sit still for the duration. If you are uncertain your child will manage, this is what Bristol Hippodrome private boxes are ideal for. Restricted view of the stage but nobody to give you daggers if your child coughs once.

The Addams Family
It’s the UK premiere of this musical comedy show based on the Addams Family. In this production, Wednesday Addams has grown up and fallen in love with someone from a ‘respectable’ family. What could possibly go wrong?

My Fair Lady

It’s a classic musical full of well known songs and based on George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion. Bristol’s BLOC performs this version and the company can yield shows to rival professional touring productions. Possibly not suitable for a six year old so it’s the flower on the leaflet that made the selection.

Slava’s Snow Show
Now this is a good choice. This outstanding snow show will turn The Bristol Hippodrome into a wintry wonderland. Cannot recommend this highly enough for families with children of all ages.

Wicked (UK Tour)

We ended up with two leaflets for this show such is its popularity here. This marvellous show tells the story of the Witches of Oz before and leading up to the events of The Wizard of Oz. It’s a good one. We’ve reviewed it before and I took my then four year old who sat entranced through the entire performance.

Shrek the Musical

We’re well into 2018 with this summer selection. Join all the usual Shrek characters for this musical based on the DreamWorks animated films. Shrek and Donkey set off to rescue Princess Fiona from her tower meeting all the usual suspects along the way.
