Casting Announced – A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Bristol Old Vic
New production explores some of the ‘darker’ elements of the popular comedy
The casting has been announced for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which will be coming to Bristol Old Vic on tour next year.
The production comes from Headlong and Shakespeare’s Globe, with Bristol Old Vic and Leeds Playhouse.
The cast includes Hedydd Dylan as Hippolyta/Titania, Jack Humphrey as Egeus/Quince, Lou Jackson as
Demetrius/Cobweb, Pria Kalsi as Flute/Child, Danny Kirrane as Bottom, Tiwa Lade as Mustardseed, Michael Marcus as Theseus/Oberon, David Olaniregun as Lysander/Moth, Tara Tijani as Helena/Peaseblossom and Sergo Vares as Puck.
Headlong takes the approach of staging all of their productions like they are brand new plays. This means audiences are watching stories ‘afresh’, no matter how familiar they think they might be with a play.
The new staging is directed by Headlong’s Artistic Director Holly Race Roughan and Co-Directed by Naeem Hayat.
Audiences can expect to see focus on what Headlong calls the ‘darker elements’ of Shakespeare’s comedy.

“The world of A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a turbulent one, the natural environment is upside down and unpredictable, and the political and social landscape is on edge, creating a sense of tension that we are all experiencing today,” Holly Race Roughan says.
“This new staging will explore some of the darker elements of Shakespeare’s well-known comedy, turning it on its head and asking us to reexamine its themes and subject matter.”
