‘Fast-paced, funny and wildly inventive’ play opens at Bristol theatre next month

Casting has been announced for The Beautiful Future is Coming, which will be at Bristol Old Vic this spring.

The play – written by Flora Wilson Brown – is a fast-paced and inventive look at the climate crisis across 250 years and through the eyes of three couples.

It was originally staged for four nights as part of the Jermyn Street Theatre’s Footprints Festival last year. It’s since undergone further development by Bristol Old Vic ahead of a major run in May and June.

The cast includes James Bradwell as Malcom, Rosie Dwyer as Ana, Michael Salami as Dan, Nina Singh as Claire, Phoebe Thomas as Eunice and Matt Whitchurch as John.

Artistic Director of Bristol Old Vic and director for The Beautiful Future Is Coming, Nancy Medina, calls the cast “extraordinary” with a “depth of talent and passion”.

“In the time I have known them, they are all deeply aware of the importance of telling this story of climate emergency in a way that reframes the topic with humour, humanity and hope,” Medina says.

“I can’t wait to see them bring Flora’s beautiful play to life on our stage and I know that through the journey of making this show we will all be inspired to reach for a more beautiful and hopeful future.”

The Beautiful Future Is Coming will be at Bristol Old Vic 15 May – 07 June 2025
