Circomedia Double Bill – The Cycle & The Beauty of Being Herd
Circus performers who graduated from Circomedia, bring professional work to Bristol
A special double bill circus performance will be taking place at Circomedia this Friday. The venue will be welcoming back two of its alumni with their professional shows as part of the circus school’s 30th anniversary.
The Cycle by Liz Fairnell, is the first performance. Liz graduated from Circomedia in 2021 and is returning to Bristol with a new piece of writing that highlights both the joys and struggles of working in the care sector.
Liz herself worked as a carer during the pandemic, discovering the people often ‘hidden behind closed doors’.
Through text, physical theatre, circus and music, it puts together testimony from real care workers with lived experience.
Real stories are told, emotions are provoked, aiming to give a voice and dignity to both the care-givers and care receivers.
The performance will be BSL interpreted by Lynne Bateman.
The second performance is The Beauty of Being Herd by Ruth Berkoff, who graduated from Circomedia in 2013.
The show was runner up for Best Newcomer and Best New Writing at this year’s Manchester Fringe.
It tells the story of Hannah, who’s decided to live as a sheep. Through original songs, comedy and heartfelt sharing, it aims to appeal to anyone who has ever felt like an outsider.
The show features a very Bristol soundtrack which was put together by Isolde Freeth-Hale from Murmuration Choir
The Circomedia Alumni Double Bill – The Cycle & The Beauty of Being Herd will be taking place on Friday 04 October at Circomedia in St Paul’s.
