A new sound-based art installation – View In, View Out – is taking place in the Sovereign Centre in Weston Super Mare this July.
It’s been created using immersive d&b Soundscape technology by composer, lyricist and performer Gwyneth Herbert, sound artist, beatboxer and DJ Jason Singh, and producer and director of British wildlife documentaries Chris Howard.
They gathered sounds, words and stories from young people and Weston Super Mare residents – as well as the sounds of nature around Mendip.
The installation aims to connect people with their ancestors, their local landscape and the wildlife of the region.
A series of plaques will also be placed on three Mendip walking trails, offering people the opportunity to listen to the soundscape on location through a free app.
VIVO comes from Nature Calling, the first in a series of new art commissions by the National Landscapes Association and Activate Performing Arts.
The VIVO installation can be found in The Sovereign, High Street, Weston-super-Mare from 14 – 20 July 2025
