Featured Show: My Dad: The Woman, The Myth, The Legend

The theatre company’s brand new play is based on a true story

Greedy Pig Theatre returns to Bristol as well as regional theatres this summer, with a brand new play My Dad: The Woman, The Myth, The Legend.

It’s exciting news for audiences as the Bath-based theatre company has a history of staging fun and empowering shows that embrace important LGBTQIA+, gender-based and feminist stories.

The company says that the play “aims to platform transgender voices, at a time where they
are being oppressed.”

My Dad: The Woman, The Myth, The Legend is due to come to the Alma Tavern Theatre, as well the Rondo Theatre, Bath and Cotswold Playhouse.

The play dives into unconventional family life with both hilarity and “hard-hitting vulnerability”. It’s written by the theatre company’s resident writer Rhys Myhill, based on a true story.

Jamie is going to be a dad. He’s over-prepared, unpredictable and only slightly on the brink of
a nervous breakdown. The only thing left to do is tell his dad. But that’s where it gets a bit
complicated…

After all, Jamie’s dad isn’t the most conventional father in the world. For one thing, she’s a
woman. For another, she’s unruly, and has very different ideas about parenting. She’s trying
her best – and so’s Jamie. But the baby’s on its way, and sh*t’s about to hit the fan.

A spokesperson for the company says: “My Dad: The Woman, The Myth, The Legend” comes off the back of recent social debates about gender and explores the transgender experience by rooting the story in the real-life events of the writer and his father, who has transitioned.”
