Windrush Caribbean Film Festival at the Arnolfini

Day-long event celebrates culture and stories from the Caribbean diaspora

This June marks the sixth annual Windrush Caribbean Film Festival. It’s a national event taking place across the country. Bristol will be taking part with a programme of events at the Arnolfini.

The event aims to bring together and unite creatives, film makers, artists and activists. It celebrates the legacy of the Windrush Generation and tells the stories of those from the Caribbean diaspora.

This year’s event will feature Black British and Caribbean culture and stories honouring Bristol’s important role in civil rights, with themes around resistance to remembrance. The city is home to the St Pauls Carnival.

Civil rights movements have also kicked off in Bristol, such as the Bristol Bus Boycott in 1963 and the toppling of Colston’s statue in 2020.

This year’s event is running in partnership with St Pauls Carnival, Tapestry of Black Britons and Curiosity UnLtd

The day-long event will see community-driven shorts reflecting upon the city’s radical history regarding the Bristol Bus Boycott.

There will also be spoken word events, a celebration of escapologist Bunny Niel and a pop-up exhibition from Tapestry of Black Britons featuring iconic figures who have shaped Black British life.

The Windrush Caribbean Film Festival takes place at the Arnolfini in Bristol on 28 June 2025
