Featured Show: The Zoo That Comes To You
Family show about conservation plays the Old Market theatre this July
A gentle show featuring puppetry, live music, clowning and cheeky yet charming animals, will be delving into animal conservation in a family friendly way this summer holiday.
The Zoo That Comes To You, is from Scarlet Oak Theatre, a Bristol-based theatre company that creates original theatre for young children and their families.
The story follows two animal enthusiasts who take in animals that need respite or care – sometimes just a temporary home. No one has come to visit the zoo, so the pair are bringing the zoo to the people.
The theatre company’s new show is hot on the heels of last year’s sell-out success Along Came A Magpipe.
This year’s show aims to inspire action and spark conversation about animal conservation.
Scarlet Oak Theatre says that the subject of animal extinction may seem like a ‘heavy topic’, but it is told through the voices of the animals and the challenges they face in a world dominated by humans.
“These animals have a lot to say and want to inspire people of all ages to take action, because they know small actions can make a big difference in the world,” the show creators say.
Scarlet Oak Theatre was set up by Circomedia graduates Jasmine Orchard and Lucia d’Inverno.
The pair have brought together their experiences of education, acting and puppeteering to create work for the city’s young audiences.
The Zoo That Comes To You will be at The Wardrobe Theatre from 24 – 27 July 2025
