House of Kong at Copper Box Arena
Interactive and immersive experience a hit with Gorillaz fans
The House of Kong experience opened earlier in August, with positive reviews from Gorillaz fans who have been making the journey to Copper Box Arena this summer. The event is running until 03 September 2025, which coincides with the final date of the Gorillaz 2025 performances in London.
House of Kong is somewhere between art and experience, which has a lot of Dismaland vibes.
The whole experience lasts around 45 minutes. A soundscape and story helps move you from space to space. This was with a well-crafted and immersive auditory experience.
Through the experience, there were other immersive points. We were invited to sit in Murdoch’s highly detailed Winnebago. The smell was pretty horrific. Exactly how you would expect it to smell. We then went through a steamy bathroom before being battered by coats.
The early rooms contained original design work by Jamie Hewlett. It definitely warranted extra time to really see everything properly. This felt too rushed. Perhaps a final room at the end with more of this work on display would have been better for those really interested in the design process.
For the immersive experience, phone use was not allowed. Stickers were placed over each person’s phone lens. This was ideal, because people stopping to take photographs would have ruined it.
Photographs were allowed around outside areas at the end.

Even if you weren’t a Gorillaz fan, it was still entertaining and a real flash back to an era of time. The late 90s early 2000s energy was strong.
Murdoch’s Winnebago was probably the high point of the event, according to fan chatter on the day. Not being a Gorillaz fan originally, this spiritual home was something that passed me by. And apparently, it “smells exactly like you would expect it too.”
The entire experience looks like it’s been a labour of love. Whilst the entry price felt a little on the high-side before you go in, it’s had a deceptively huge amount of work from creatives to bring the experience together.
It was definitely worth the trip.
