Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club in London

A cleverly crafted concept that brings you into an immersive experience

Theatre staff are careful to police all attempts at taking photographs or videos inside of the Kit Kat Club.

The venue – Playhouse Theatre – has been renamed since 2021 and entirely transformed into a pre World War 2 cabaret club.

The restriction on photography is definitely needed. Without the ban, it would turn the Front of House area into crowd carnage. It would also spoil the many surprises awaiting audiences.

With this production of Cabaret, you don’t just visit the theatre. The minute you enter the building it’s an immersive experience. It feels just like entering an early 20th century Berlin club. Throughout the Front of House area, performances take place by both dancers and actor musicians, bringing theatre goers right into the heart of the era.

The auditorium itself has also been transformed into an in-the-round space. The capacity is just 550, so this feels like an intimate performance.

Tables line the stage, with a small number of rows of audience members behind them. Loving the wooden shelf for being able to put drinks on.

Cabaret Kit Kat Club Review - Image of the front of the theatre. It's raining so everything shines. The front of the theatre has the red Cabaret logo with blue lighting bathing the building. Small groups of people are stood outside of the building.

The musical is set against the fall of the Weimar Republic and rise of Nazism. This trip to the theatre felt especially enhanced by a visit to the Imperial War Museum earlier in the day.

There are moment in the musical which shock. All the more considering the growth of the right wing in the UK over the last ten years. There are parallel moments which hit hard against current affairs.

The production was an outstanding piece of theatre performed by a wonderful cast.

The entire concept from the incoming to the outgoing was a cleverly crafted experience.

At this production we saw Reeve Carney as Emcee and Eva Noblezada as Sally Bowles.

Noblezada gave a simply outstanding performance and when performing Cabaret towards the end, the audience hardly dare breathe.

The show is well worth adding to your must-watch list. The Stalls from around row F possibly gives you the best views and experience. That is, of course, unless you have the budget for front row dining.
