Jonny & The Baptists Come To Clevedon With The Happiness Index
Popular musical comedy duo comes to Curzon Cinema & Arts in Clevedon
In a timely exploration of politics, mental health and the ‘chaos of modern life’ Jonny & The Baptists will be touring the UK with The Happiness Index.
Audiences have been calling the show both ‘hilarious’ and ‘poignant’, with its mix of comedy, post-modern absurdity and raw emotional honesty.
The musical comedy is named after The Happiness Index – former Prime Minister David Cameron’s attempt to measure the happiness of Britain. After 14 years of Conservative rule with five chaotic Tory Prime Ministers, there’s unlikely to be a huge amount of joy on anyone’s chart right now.
The show has been created by Jonny Donahoe and Paddy Gervers of Stop UKIP, who both hope audiences will leave feeling “inspired and connected.”
It’s been developed with James Rowland and produced by Impatient Productions, with the full list of creatives at the bottom of the page.
The Happiness Index explores themes of mental health, grief and resilience, drawn from Jonny and Paddy’s personal experience. It explores the political turbulence of Conservative power and its long-term societal impact.
Paddy found mental health support particularly difficult when looking for support with his depression. Systemic barriers were firmly in place as a direct result of Tory austerity.
Following the show, there will be an interval ahead of a second performance taking place. The second show second show is an invited Work In Progress, which will be taking place for the audience to watch at no extra charge. This is a great opportunity to watch brand new work which will be both ‘relaxed and fun’.
