Looping Electroacoustic Harpist Returns to The Wardrobe Theatre
Scarlett Smith returns to the Old Market theatre with more harp looping and whimsical wonderings
It’s a year ago this month that Bristol harpist Scarlett Smith, took to the stage of The Wardrobe Theatre with her first show Any Objections?
Scarlett is an electroacoustic harpist and comedian who studied physical theatre, clowning and stand-up at Bristol’s Circomedia.
With Any Objections? she’s brought the harp from the back of the orchestra, putting it centre stage to show what it can really do.
From busking on the streets of Bournemouth at 15 to over a decade of wedding entertainment – Scarlet has performed solo covers of everything from the Jurassic Park theme to Dreams by The Cranberries to Nothing Else Matters by Metallica.
Since performing in Bristol last year, Scarlett has taken her show to both Edinburgh and Brighton fringe festivals to sell-out success.
Last year’s highly memorable performance gave Bristol audiences a gentle and whimsical journey blending live looping, comedy, interactive game show and humorous takes from her decade in the wedding industry.
Having undergone further development, Bristol audiences can expect a fresh new show.
Amongst the musical journey will be further wedding industry chatter, new stories and the return of the interactive game show.
Scarlett is keen to promote inclusivity with her work no matter what the form or where the show. As a queer performer herself she calls Any Objections? a “safe space” where people are invited to embrace what makes them unique.
“The show is for anyone looking to reclaim joy and playfulness in their lives,” she says.
“It’s for the recovering people pleasers and chronic overthinkers who are done with feeling pushed around. A love letter to unapologetic self-expression, and to building a life that feels undeniably yours.”
