Micro Review: Jonathan Baldock Held

The clock is ticking if you haven’t yet had a chance to check out Jonathan Baldock’s exhibition Held.
The event comes to an end on Sunday 27 September.
The striking collection brings together tapestry and textiles and ceramic work creating themes of connection with tactile and olfactory opportunities. Across the work are pieces of human anatomy, particularly tongues and eyes, creating a strong sense of discomfort. It feels tribal with quite a bit of folk horror energy.
The centre piece is a giant bear sculpture, which visitors are allowed to lie down next to – with shoes off. It doesn’t feel inviting though. There’s something about the eyes which provokes feelings of disgust. The dead eyes feel disturbing.
Overall it’s an interesting collection of work that needs to be felt rather than viewed through photographs. It’s worth popping along to see it for yourself.
