New Bristol Company Stages Original Musical
The company has emerged from new Bristol theatre degree
Codetta is a brand new musical to be staged in Weston Super Mare this month. It’s created by the very first graduates of a Bristol theatre degree.
The inaugural graduates of The Wardrobe Ensemble’s Acting & Devised Theatre degree, formed theatre company Kismet last year. The new company is one of the many success stories of the graduate theatre scene in Bristol right now.
The Wardrobe Ensemble’s new degree runs in partnership with the highly regarded Bristol School of Acting.
Kismet says it aims to create bold and collaborative theatre with ‘genre-mashing’ storytelling.
The company says it is ‘committed’ to creating work that is accessible to a wide audience. Its shows are ambitious and both ‘politically and culturally aware’.
With a ‘commitment to theatre that entertains wide audiences’ Kismet says it hopes to spark conversation and show that ‘new, imaginative performance can be both radical and welcoming.’
Codetta features original music, movement and ensemble storytelling. The staging has been inspired by the theatricality of pop concerts. Its title is a play on Italian music terms and is also the name of the 12 year old protagonist.
Through the glittering world of The Daffodils – a fictitious band – the show explores the intensity of growing up. When friendships shifts, small endings – a Codetta – can feel world-changing.
Codetta will be at the Blakehay Theatre on 29 May 2026
