Epic Race Dives into Bristol’s Loco Klub
Heart-warming comedy is in Bristol for one night only
Two swimmers go head-to-head in this splash-hit comedy which dives into the tunnels of Loco Klub this month.
The Crawl, has been a raging critical success winning over audiences at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe.
It’s back in the UK following international tours, playing at the central Bristol venue before heading onto London.
“The Crawl takes the familiar setting of a swim race and turns it on its head, transforming it into a whirlwind of imagination and surprise,” director Olivia Zerphy says.
“What moves me most about this piece is how it sneaks up on you — beneath the laughter and chaos is a tender story about self-acceptance, the pressure to win, and the quiet triumph of choosing your own
way forward.”
The original comedy was created in Paris during the 2024 Olympics by Alexander Burnett and Ellie Whittaker.
The Lecoq-trained pair also perform the show with direction by Olivia Zerphy.
Original music is by Andrés Hernandéz.
The three met as students at the Ecole Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris. Their shared passion for physical comedy and visual and physical storytelling has resulted in this high-energy and heart-warming show.
There is absolutely no water in the show, but there is plenty of comedy and larger-than-life characters.
Mytha, a decorated swimmer who trains in ice water in the north and moves glaciers in his spare time.
He’s facing off against Steve from Dead-endton, UK.
Steve is a beast at bicep curls and never says no to a fan autograph.
The two performers are the athletes, commentators and organisers, all navigating competition pressure.
The audience members are the cheering fans, with some even stepping into the story.
The Crawl explores absurd rivalry and explores what it really means to win.
