Show Of Strength Theatre Company Launches Podcast

Find out what dark deeds lurk in Bristol’s shadows with this brand new podcast

Bristol’s Show of Strength theatre company, has launched a brand new podcast delving into Bristol’s dark history.

BRISTOL: IT’S CRIMINAL is presented by Sheila Hannon, the company’s creative producer. In each episode, she will be in conversation with a guest who has specialist knowledge in areas of the city’s history.

Bristol has made its fortune on ‘trade, empire, rebellion – and sometimes outright criminality’ Show of Strength reminds us.

The city is rooted in pirates and press gangs, public executions and body snatchers, corruption, colonial violence and the blurred line between legal power and crime.

“This isn’t sanitised heritage. It’s storytelling rooted in rigorous research from the company that brings Bristol’s past to life on the streets every week.  It’s also told with a great deal of humour to lighten the darkness,” Show of Strength says.

The company continues their success with their hugely popular theatre walks. The new podcast complements the walks, bringing together theatre, archive and history. The company asks of Bristol’s dark deeds – who benefited? Who suffered? And who got to write the history?
