Tobacco Factory Theatres is Christmas Ready With a Brand New Show

Brand new story for theatre audiences promises to be “special moment”

Playful storytelling, with festive magic and a lot of heart is infused throughout Rapunzel – A Hairy Tale.

It’s this year’s Christmas show at Tobacco Factory Theatres, written by Sharon Clark and directed by Tom Brennan.

Chief Executive and Artistic Director of Tobacco Factory Theatres, Heidi Vaughan, knows how important its Christmas show is, calling them a “special moment in the year” for the community.

Set in a world where nothing is quite what it seems, Rapunzel brings us a story about growing up, speaking out and finding your voice.

Sharon Clark said she wanted to tell a story about how a young person finds their voice – in a powerful way.

“Rapunzel might be trapped in a tower, but she’s full of questions, ideas and hope,” Clark says.

“This version of the tale is about what happens when we dare to speak up, reach out and shape the world around us.”

Director Tom Brennan adds: “This show is a celebration of curiosity, courage and connection – and it’s packed with music, mischief and a lot of very big hair.”

The south Bristol theatre has a cracking line up of shows across the festive season, including Scruff’s Christmas Adventure, Gurt Haunted: Miracle on North Street and Factory Singers Christmas Extravaganza 2025.

If you’ve never been to Tobacco Factory Theatres before, the building has two performance spaces. There’s the main Factory Theatre. But, there’s also a smaller more intimate performance space on the same floor – The Spielman Theatre. This means there’s a double bumper line up of super shows every year.

It’s hard to believe the theatre is fast approaching it’s 25th anniversary – which will be celebrated in 2027.

This year’s winter line-up is a chance for the theatre’s community to “connect and share” in something that’s really “joyful,” Heidi Vaughan continues.

“With Sharon’s lyrical writing and Tom’s playful direction, Rapunzel – A Hairy Tale will be a show with real heart, humour and just a touch of festive sparkle.”

Rapunzel – A Hairy Tale will be at Tobacco Factory Theatres from 27 November 2025 – 17 January 2026
