Windrush Day Voices at Bristol Beacon
Musical event celebrates legacy of the Windrush generation
Pegasus Opera Company were back at the Bristol Beacon this weekend, with Windrush Day Voices.
The musical event celebrated this year’s Windrush Day. It’s an annual event honouring the legacy and cultural impact of the Windrush generation – as well as their descendants. They arrived in Britain on 22 June 1948.
An hour of music from intergenerational performers took place in the Lantern Hall.
It featured pupils from Willow Park Primary School in Bristol, local singer Dionne Draper and soprano Adwoa Dickson.
The lovely event had the kind of inclusive and relaxed vibes usually absent from classical musical concerts. The audience was at times invited to join in with singers on stage.
A final rousing rendition of Mi Caffi, brought all the performers back to the stage for a communal sing-a-long.
