Advance Booking Supports Theatre and Artists Front Room Theatre Says

The South West theatre explains how audiences can support the arts by pre-booking

A Weston-Super-Mare theatre is calling on audiences to pre-book tickets to its shows wherever possible.

Front Room Theatre says doing so makes a ‘huge difference’ to both the venue and the artists.

Booking ahead allows the theatre to keep bringing touring shows to the town. Local artists and the community also benefit from audience pre-booking. This is because ticket sales help fund opportunities such as residencies and commissions as well as community outreach programmes and creative workshops.

The theatre operates on a 70/30 ticket split with visiting companies, a policy which sees 70 per cent going directly to the performers with 30 per cent to the venue.

But the theatre believes that most artists aren’t ‘fairly’ paid for their work with some ending up performing for free.

“That’s not OK,” the theatre says. It takes an ethical stance to support its touring productions.

Explaining further the venue says: “So, we make a promise: if the ticket split doesn’t cover the minimum industry rate for the artists, we top it up. That’s how committed we are to fair pay for artists.”

Audiences are always welcome to pay on the door, but pre-booking shows helps the venue to forward plan their programme of events.

It’s hard to believe the theatre only opened its doors in December 2022. It so quickly cemented its reputation as a vital fringe venue in the South West arts scene.

There is festive theatre taking place at the venue all through the Christmas period.

The family show this year is Where Did The Snow Go? by Scarlett Oak Theatre. It runs up to 30 December 2025.

There are lots of other shows throughout December, including play-along show A Winter’s Tail and musical yuletide comedy Fête Club.
