Preview: Body Parts at Pegg Studio Theatre
Edinburgh preview runs for one night only
Bristol is brimming with Edinburgh previews at the moment. It’s worth rooting around the city’s What’s On listings for the interesting theatrical gems which can often be overlooked.
One place worth looking is at the University of Bristol’s plethora of performing arts and original theatre societies.
Bristol DramSoc, is one such society. It is staging a brand new play for one night only this June. It’s a work in progress performance, which will then head to the Stephenson Theatre in Edinburgh.
Body Parts has been written by Iola King Alleyne. Earlier this year, she was one of three actors giving an outstanding performance in Eightball Productions’ Scenes With Girls.
This new piece of theatre is an experimental dark comedy. It explore themes of family, guilt and the insatiable sexual appetite of an older woman.
May is in her sixties. She visits her eldest child Carmel who has moved into her new home in rural Scotland.
She brings along Carmel’s younger sister Margot with her long-term boyfriend. It’s not long until May and the boyfriend embark upon an affair.
An interesting aspect to the staging of Body Parts is the use of facial mapping software.
DramSoc has been working in collaboration with Alensi Studios to integrate this aspect of their technology with live performance.
The team behind Body Parts call the collab a “taste of the future of theatre”.
The show is co-directed by Madeleine Morgan and co-produced with Daisy Nissen.
The cast includes Lily Robinson, Meabh Brolly, Cleo French and Tom Bayman.
