Awkward Productions Returns To Bristol With Hit Show
Hit theatre company brings brand new show to South Bristol
It’s always a joy when Linus Karp and Joseph Martin return to Bristol with one of their many hit shows.
We’ve had shows about the movie Cats, Princess Diana and Gwyneth Paltrow.
The pair even have another brand new show going to Edinburgh this year – Linus Karp Was Hit With An Umbrella. It’s a comedy a show about the events and aftermath of a homophobic attack which involved the performer being hit with an umbrella.
Their latest show on tour – The Fit Prince (who gets switched on the square in the frosty castle the night before (insert public holiday here)) is making its way to Bristol for the summer.
It’s another original new show by two of the most fun and flamboyant theatre creatives right now. This show will be celebrating and parodying the huge number of Netflix and Hallmark holiday movies.
“I would say the biggest inspirations are probably The Princess Switch, The Christmas Prince and The Knight
Before Christmas – they’re the golden standard,” Joseph says.
“Vanessa Hudgens is our Queen. That said, The Fit Prince is also its own original story and doesn’t require any previous knowledge.”
Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square is the best one! Dolly Parton as a homeless angel? Christine Baranski
as an evil woman selling the town? Jenifer Lewis belting? Chaotic backing dancers in every scene? It is CAMP
PERFECTION,” Linus adds.
In The Fit Prince, the king is dead! Linus – who plays Prince Elian of Swedonia – must marry in order to retain the crown.
Joseph is Aaron Butcher, a baker from New York who is commissioned to bake the royal wedding cake.
Together, the pair end up on an adventure across Swedonia. At the same time, a threat is uncovered that could destroy the whole country.
The real-life married couple tied the knot during last year’s Edinburgh Fringe at an event which was part of the offical Fringe programme.
Meanwhile back in Bristol, as Awkward Productions, they have been visiting with touring theatre since 2019. It’s the only city that’s been part of every tour the company has done.
“It’s the first city we sold out a venue in, and our shows and Bristolians feel like a natural match – both being hilarious, queer, irreverent and political,” Linus says.
The show is written by both Linus and Joseph, with original music by Golden Globe–nominated songwriter and producer Leland.
As ever, there is a fantastic digital cast including Tove Lo, Sebastian Croft, Malte Gårdinger, Joshua Whitehouse, Misia Butler, Jeremy McClain and Kate Butch.
Fans will be pleased to know that the marvellous Geri Allen makes a return, reprising her performance of Queen of England from Diana: The Untold and Untrue story.
The Fit Prince (who gets switched on the square in the frosty castle the night before (insert public holiday here)) will be at Tobacco Factory Theatres 24 – 27 June 2026
