Bristol Improv Theatre Hardship Fund Launches

The theatre shut suddenly this month

A hardship fund for those working at Bristol Improv Theatre has been set up by a group of volunteers in the improv community.

The immediate closure of the theatre has come as a blow to staff and freelancers who without work are unable to pay for things like rent, heating and food.

To support those affected in the short term, a group of people independent of the Bristol Improv Theatre and not part of any insolvency process have set up a fundraiser, led by Liam Higgins as treasurer.

Liam says on the fundraising page: “The Bristol Improv Theatre filled our hearts with joy, connected us and made us laugh, and its sudden closure saddened us terribly, but its loss has taken more than laughter.

“We as a community can change this story. We can make sure people are housed, healthy, and safe. We can change this story from a tragedy to a story of community togetherness, kindness and resilience. Please step forward and help. Step out and be a person that helps others. Please donate what you can today.”

Former theatre staff and freelancers will be able to apply confidentially for grants, with the first round of applications closing on 27 October.
