Bristol Children’s Hospital – Lollypop Be-Bop
How to change the lights on the Lollypop Be-Bop sculpture at the Bristol Children’s Hospital
Lollypop Be-Bop at the Bristol Children’s Hospital – officially called Bristol Royal Hospital for Children – is the welcoming art installation by artist Andrew Smith. The iconic sculpture is comprised of colourful rings and lights located at the entrance of the hospital. The added novelty of Lollypop Be-Bop is that children are able to change the colour of the lights on the rings from inside the building.
The installation formed part of the new children’s hospital when it opened in 2001. After the lights eventually failed and were unable to be repaired due to the technology involved, it remained out of action until November 2022.
Now back in working action, the lights on Lollypop Be-Bop, can be changed using a control panel outside of the lifts on level 3 of the building – the Orange level.
Each light has a corresponding button. You can see how it works in our video above.
