Bristol City Centre Welcoming Art By Oshii

Large new pavement mural has been taking shape in central Bristol

A pedestrian area of Bristol City Centre is being transformed with a large new piece of public artwork designed by Oshii.

It looks like it’s been a bit of a challenge to carry out over the last week, with heavy rain and wind hammering the city.

The new artwork is called Our Common Ground, which draws on influences from African heritage, world history and present day community voices.

Oshii – Oisín Davis-Lyons – is a multidisciplinary artist who works with sculpture, painting, collage and mural-based work. He often explores themes around Black identity, migration and heritage as well as the political structures shaping society.

He says that he aims to spark discussions with his work, which has certainly been happening on Bristol social media.

The artwork has been funded by Bristol City Council and Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District.

It’s part of the Centre Promenade improvement project.

As well as the mural, there are plans to install planters to integrate with the artwork, as well as planting flowerbeds and plants.
