Bristol Theatre Company BMCC Celebrates Big Birthday

Popular company celebrates centenary with Rodgers & Hammerstein classic

It’s a big birthday this year for Bristol Musical Comedy Club – known as BMCC. The Bristol theatre company has reached its 100th birthday.

Despite being an amateur company, it has brought both technically proficient and dazzling high-quality performances to Bristol theatres from the start.

It was back in 1926 BMCC formed, originally as the Brislington Players and operating out of St Luke’s Church.

The club’s very first musical was The King of Sherwood, a twenties operetta, which cost just £14 in production costs.

After several years of annual musicals at Brislington Church Hall, the club expanded and branched its repertoire into more ‘modern’ musicals of the time.

As it grew in popularity, playing to sold out audiences, it went on to stage shows at the Victoria Rooms from 1938. The following year, the company changed its moniker to Bristol Musical Comedy Club, growing into the much-loved company on stage today.

The company, a registered charity, is self-financing and fully reliant on ticket sales. The audience support enables BMCC to bring shows to Bristol audiences.

And for the audiences, the company provides them the opportunity to see a variety of shows they might not otherwise have the chance to see live.

For its centenary year, BMCC is bringing Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella to the Redgrave Theatre.

Backed by a 20-piece orchestra, and big dance routines, audiences can expect all the usual performance sparkle.

BMCC will be at the Redgrave Theatre with Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella from 05 – 09 May 2026
