Bristol Theatre Company Wrap On Another Successful Year
Theatre company celebrates another hit run this year
It’s been another stellar year for Full Frontal Theatre. The Bristol-based company, which is in its infancy, keeps staging banging new work, written by Sadie Pearson.
Full Frontal Theatre also includes the talents of director Hen Ryan and producer Grace Shropshire.
This year, Rodney Black: Who Cares? It’s Working – played for one night only at a sold-out performance at Bristol Improv Theatre.
Pearson describes the show as an “interrogation” of comedy. It’s a show that entertains, makes you laugh, but is very dark at the same time. The company are not afraid to deep-dive challenging subjects.
Sadie’s sharp, smart writing was evident in the previous year’s stage success To Watch A Man Eat.
Rodney Black: Who Cares? has just wrapped up yet another sell out run this September at the Arcola Theatre in London.
I’s been a year full of four and five star reviews from female critics for Full Frontal. The proof that the play hits comes from the one male Guardian reviewer with a somewhat begrudging two stars.
He dishes up the comment: ‘ Full Frontal Theatre is a female-led company with a commitment to fighting misogyny. No surprise, then, that the most powerful moments in Sadie Pearson’s play are when actor Merida Beasley interrupts the male-dominated action to deliver impassioned and graphic accounts of violence against women.’
Job done Full Frontal.
The company has also been busy collecting awards and nominations. Last month, Full Frontal received a special mention at the Popcorn Writing Awards. It was delivered by none other than Miriam Margolyes, during its run at Gilded Balloon in this year’s Edinburgh Fringe.
We think Full Frontal Theatre are one of the most exciting companies to break out of Bristol, with compelling work that clearly hits the right nerves. It’s exciting to see what they come up with next.
