David Olusoga Comes to Bristol Beacon With A Gun Through Time

The TV historian is going out on a UK tour fresh from his time on Celebrity Traitors

Have you ever considered how a single weapon could change the course of history? It’s a question David Olusoga will be asking in a new touring show. He will be exploring the human stories behind some of the world’s most ‘influential firearms’ in his show A Gun Through Time, which is out on a UK tour in 2025 and 2026.

David Olusoga says: “This show explores how guns were once integral to life, shaping our history and culture. Yet, as conflicts re-emerge, the peace we’ve known feels fragile, with echoes of the past returning to modern battlefields and a renewed call for defence readiness in Britain”.

The firearms David will be bringing with him include the Thompson Sub-Machine Gun, the Maxim Gun, the Lee-Enfield Rifle and the British Brown Bess flintlock musket.

Audiences will see the weapons up close and will learn and understand the social histories that go with them.

“I come from a generation that, unlike our ancestors, has had little contact with firearms,” David says. This makes us incredibly fortunate and unique, living in a rare era of peace. In the last century, two generations were conscripted into massive armies, with millions bearing arms in wars. Today, most of us have never even seen a gun, thanks to strict gun laws and a smaller military.”

The TV historian is well-known in Bristol for his stint on A House Through Time which featured an episode on No.10 Guinea Street in Redcliffe.
