Gorillaz Live 2025 Copper Box London

Gorillaz on Friday 29 August 2025

Although I’m old enough to remember when the Gorillaz first emerged, it was actually my 15-year-old who really wanted to see them live. Thus came the trip to both The House of Kong and tickets to the first sold-out gig.

It’s surprising how much of a resurgence the band has had with much younger fans in recent years. So much so, Primark recently sold t-shirts depicting members of the band.

At Copper Box for the first of four gigs, there was clearly fans who got into the band the first time around. It felt like a strong mix of older teens and the 35 plus age groups.

The Gorillaz are celebrating 25 years with exhibition House of Kong and a series of live shows all at Copper Box in London.

There’s four performances in total. The first was a full-length play of their debut album Gorillaz. The second show Demon Days. The third Plastic Beach and the fourth a Mystery Show with little detail of the surprises to expect.

One of the best things about a band dedicating an entire performance to one album is that you get to hear songs that are rarely – if ever – played live.

For the performance, Gorillaz played through their entire first album, ending with some mixes and B sides as an encore. The entire performance lasted 90 minutes.

At times, Damon Albarn interacted with the audience. A minor blunder part way through 19-200 saw the singer stop the song on stage, explaining to the audience that they would start again.

Come the end of the song, he chatted again whilst issues of stopping preset tech caused a minor issue.

He also took time to speak about the life of Ibrahim Ferrer following the performance of Latin Simone (Que Pasa Contigo).

You can see some of the performance in the following two videos

I had initially meant to upload a different video of this. On the night, the band stopped partway through due to a mistake and restarted. This was the version they stopped 3/4 of the way through.
