Much-Loved Clevedon Theatre Loses Home
The theatre is asking for help from the community to ensure its future
It’s a rotten start to the new year for the Theatre Shop Clevedon, which faces losing its home.
It’s been a huge staple in Clevedon’s artistic offering having spent the last ten years at their venue on Queens Square.
Now the venue’s future is uncertain. The building’s new landlord is looking for a tenant who can pay full commercial rent and business rates.
Whilst the theatre is gearing up to go ahead with its spring season, its future is “uncertain” with the team having to leave the unit in the near future.
The venue has a sizeable 86 seater auditorium. It runs two busy seasons each year, playing to sold out audiences.
The Theatre Shop made its home in what was a disused and empty retail unit. Since then, it has brought a varied programme of professional touring theatre to the seaside town.
Despite its future being up in the air, the team is determined to “keep the curtain up” on The Theatre Shop. It’s asking the local community for support.
Critically, a new venue is urgently needed. Anyone who knows of a suitable space is urged to get in contact.
The set, equipment and seating needs a safe space to be stored which would ideally be “temporary free or low-cost”.
People are also welcome to make financial donations of “any size” to help cover the relocation costs. It will also help secure the future of the theatre.
With the physical issue of dismantling the theatre’s interior infrastructure, people who can volunteer their time to help are also very welcome to get in contact.
