Soprano Laura-Jane Foley Releases Lullaby Album Songs For My Daughter
Songs For My Daughter from Laura-Jane Foley:
Soprano Laura-Jane Foley, has released a special collection of lullabies to help raise money for a charity as well as encourage parents and carers to share traditional tunes with their children.
The classically trained singer recorded 23 songs in the chapel of St Peter’s College, Oxford University, accompanied by Gavin Roberts on the piano.
Songs for My Daughter includes a mix of much loved classical songs as well as other traditional pieces. Between the music are readings of poems by writers including Shakespeare, Yeats and DH Lawrence.
Fewer parents than ever are singing lullabies to their children, despite National Literacy Trust research finding that doing so helps babies and young children with their language development and subsequent reading skills.
For each album sold, at least £1 will be donated to The Lullaby Trust, a charity which aims to prevent sudden unexpected deaths in infancy. The charity works with the Department of Health to reduce the numbers of babies dying from SIDS also known as cot death.
Songs For My Daughter is out today, priced at £10.95 and available from both iTunes and Amazon
