Visit Hot Fuzz Filming Locations in Wells
- We popped to Wells this Easter to spot some Hot Fuzz Filming Locations
If you’re looking to shake things up from the usual holiday activities, this is an easy day out for Hot Fuzz fans. The 2007 action comedy cop movie meets Scream, is directed by Edgar Wright and written by both Wright and Simon Pegg. It’s one of the much-loved Cornetto Trilogy starring Pegg and Nick Frost.
Most of the ‘Sandford’ action was shot in Wells, Somerset. With a journey taking just under an hour in the car or an hour and ten minutes on the bus, it’s not far from Bristol and there’s lots to see and do. Best of all, most of the Hot Fuzz locations are publicly accessible and totally free.
We went down on a sunny, warm day in the school Easter holidays. This is a city which can be heaving during the peak holiday months, especially with Wells Cathedral being a big tourist draw. On an April school holiday weekday, it wasn’t uncomfortably busy, though still might prove challenging for neurodivergent family members.
We put together a simple Google map of locations based on the film and followed this around. Whilst we didn’t make it as far as the exterior of the theatre or all the small lanes used in chases, much of the action happens right in the central area with a very short walk between each location.
Whilst there was not one Living Statue around and the Somerfield is long gone, each location is still highly recognisable, particularly Wells High Street, which is the focal point for much of the story and the setting for one of the most unlikely shoot-outs in cinematic history.

No visit to Hot Fuzz locations would be complete without a visit to St Cuthbert’s Church – although no one was keen to get that close to the tower after what happened to Tim Messenger.
We got the 376 from Bristol Bus Station, which stops at Wells Bus and Coach Station. The bus took 1 hour ten minutes in total with single fares for children just £1.
The bus back to Bristol currently departs every half hour at peak time.
As well as finding locations from the movie, there is plenty else to do in Wells, including visiting Wells Cathedral, The Bishop’s Palace and Vicars’ Close.
