Have You Seen the Bristol Cary Grant Statue?
Did you know there’s a statue of the Hollywood star in Bristol?
Archibald Alec Leach, as he was born, was the Bristolian from Horfield that went on to become one of the biggest stars in the Golden Age of Hollywood.
There’s a life sized bronze statue honouring him in Millennium Square next to We The Curious.
The statue was made by sculptor Graham Ibbeson and unveiled by his widow Barbara Jaynes in December 2001.
There are two major cultural events surrounding Cary Grant and his legacy in Bristol.
The first is by Show of Strength Theatre Company, who run theatre walks in Bristol throughout the year. Cary Comes Home: From Bristol to Hollywood, is the one you want to book to find out all you need to know about the actor and his relationship with Bristol.
The walk has plenty of stories to tell and takes in the streets Cary frequented during his life – including theatres and cinemas.
The second event – Cary Grant Comes Home – is a major biennial film festival celebrating the Hollywood star with movie and cultural events taking place over a long weekend.
