Soul Cake Theatre Is Back With New Twisted Tales

An anthology of darkly comic stories for the stage runs at the Clifton Theatre ahead of Halloween

Bristol theatre company Soul Cake Theatre, is gearing up to take to the stage of the Alma Tavern Theatre this October.

The company has been staging productions in the South West for over ten years, creating what they call “accessible” and “entertaining” theatre in an “edgy fringe style”.

In 2025, the theatre company sold out their run at the Alma Tavern Theatre with comedy drama Loop, written by Andrzej Wawrowski – the founder of Soul Cake Theatre and its main playwright.

This year, Soul Cake Theatre is staging The Street Where You Live. It’s an anthology collection of six darkly comic and twisted tales. Expect both the “bizarre and “bloody” Soul Cake Theatre says.

For this production, writer, poet and actor Adam Elms has joined the as an associate artist.

The Street Where You Live dives into stories about what might be taking place behind your neighbours’ curtains.

The six stories are:

Front Window
“His socks – Paisley (Spiced Orange) – stand out in the darkness like two flaming beacons.”

Jane and Pru look out for their neighbours in the only way they know how. With binoculars and an Excel spreadsheet.

Monster
“I knew there was something wrong straight away. Those big eyes and fuck-off teeth. She has small eyes. And false teeth.”

After what has happened to him, Josh just wants to be alone. But the strange girl in the red cape has other ideas.

The Agency
“You know, for someone looking for good conversation, I think you’re forgetting that involves actually speaking yourself.”

Kieran dips his toe back into the dating pool through a brand new agency. He’s got the flowers, the chocolates, the moussaka. What could possibly go wrong?

Strangers. On a Train.
“I’m not interested in whether we met at Penelope’s party—whether it was outside the toilet—inside the drawing room—or on top of the breakfast bar. Because we didn’t.”

Lisa struggles with the painful memory of a brief encounter. And a power ballad no one deserves.

Mother Lode
“She ate my Twirl. She did… I’d been looking forward to that Twirl for weeks – weeks, it had been in my thoughts.”

Barry and his mother have barely set foot outside their house in three years and that’s just how they like it. But are cracks in their relationship beginning to show?

We Came Upon The Midnight Clear
“You don’t mind—do you? – if Abigail shares something with us? Won’t take long. Then you can get back to your telly and your mince pies!”

Carol singers Gemma and Abigail have always worn their hearts on their sleeves. So when they go down a wrong path – a very wrong path – they insist you hear all about it.

The Street Where You Live will be at the Alma Tavern Theatre 20 – 24 October 2026
