Broad Meadow in Broadmead Bristol Returns Area to Wildflowers
Have you seen the flower installation Broad Meadow in Broadmead yet? This is what it is
A beautiful art installation of flower called Broad Meadow, has been created in Broadmead as part of Mayfest – Bristol’s international festival of contemporary theatre and live performance.
The installation aims to immerse people in a wildflower meadow, accompanied by an audio experience. This is to connect people to Broadmead in the time around the 1500s. Back then, Broadmead was a meadow that was regularly flooded by the river Frome. The flowers in the installation have been chosen to represent the plant species that may once have grown in the area.
Artists Sylvia Rimat and Charli Clark are behind the work which invites people in for free to step back into the lost nature of Broadmead.
The installation is comprised of 55 wildflower boxes that have been planted in workshops with secondary school pupils and community groups in Bristol. At the end of the event, the boxes will be distributed to Bristol schools and local communities to continue growing their mini meadows.
Broad Meadow is running until Thursday 20 June 2024.
Drop in for free between 11am and 3pm. Bring along smartphones for the audio experience.
