Luke Jerram Sculpture Helios Comes to Bath

Giant scupture of the sun comes to Bath on tour

A new 7-meter sculpture by artist Luke Jerram, will be coming to Bath as part of a tour during 2025.

Helios is lit internally and combines solar imagery, sunlight and sound. It’s named after the Ancient Greek God who personifies the sun.

It follows on from Jerram’s previous artworks Museum of the Moon, Gaia and Mars.

This sculpture features a sound composition that includes NASA recordings of the sun by Duncan Speakman and Sarah Anderson.

The project has been co-commissioned with the National Trust. Helios will be positioned in the Georgian Ball Room at Bath Assembly Rooms.

After a launch weekend offering free entry to visitors, the event will be open on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 January and every day between 30 January – 23 February 2025

“We all know that it is very dangerous to look directly at the sun, as it can damage our eyesight,” Helios artist Luke Jerram says.

“Helios provides a safe opportunity for the public to get up close to, and inspect, its extraordinarily detailed surface including sunspots, spicules and filaments.

“The Northern Lights are one of the greatest wonders and displays of art in the natural world. I’ve incorporated the source of the solar flares which caused this phenomenon to be visible over the UK in May 2024.”
