#NoticeThisTree Event In Bristol City Centre

Bristol event taking place to honour the city’s trees

Have you spotted signs around trees in Bristol city centre with a sash saying #NoticeThisTree?

It’s part of an event taking place on Sunday 15 September 2024 at both the Bear Pit and the Cube Cinema.

The intervention aims to bring people together as a community to reflect on love and loss – and recognising the importance trees play in our lives.

The event has been taking place in other areas including Hackney, Haringey, Nottingham, Plymouth and Brighton.

A tree in Bristol City Centre

#noticethistree was created by a local community in Hackney, London who came together to save what was known as the Happy Man Tree.

The London Plane tree was threatened by developers. Despite a strong campaign from the community to save the tree, it was ultimately felled by Berkeley Homes.

On Sunday 15 September, people are being invited to take a walk from their own ‘chosen’ tree in Bristol. The walk is towards the Bear Pit for a ceremony to take place at 3pm in honour of trees.

Following this, a screening of Katy McGahan’s Happy Man Tree documentary will be taking place at The Cube Microplex at 4pm.

Organisers of the Bristol event warn there are ‘many’ trees at threat in Bristol. These include trees at St Mary Le Port, Bedminster Meadows and Baltic Wharf.

‘Tree protectors’ will be walking to the Bear Pit from all these locations to raise awareness.
