Micro Review: The Rocky Horror Show Bristol 2026

A lively performance but it’s time to ditch the outdated call-backs

After a banging performance at Bristol Pride last weekend, Jason Donovan was all set to take to the stage in Bristol as Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show. Alas, it was not meant to be, with Stephen Webb stepping into the week-long Bristol run last minute.

The result was a brilliant performance with a top notch cast who brought bags of energy to the show as our favourite characters. Amidst the audience call-backs and the singular humour, it’s easy to miss the vocal talents of the cast. Haley Flaherty as Janet was particularly vocally stunning, impressive when it was already the second performance of the evening.

Some of the call-backs are now really outdated and inappropriate. Those surrounding the character of Dr. Scott are at times really very offensive. It’s high time to let those go now.

Narrator Nathan Caton made his feelings around them really clear, a sentiment echoed by the vast majority of the audience. When they were later repeated, no one was impressed.

It was, however, a brilliant show with a rather lively audience – even for a Friday night.
