“Incredibly strong and giving” Bristol Actor Hopes To Fulfill Dream

Talented and highly regarded Bristol actor looks for support chasing dream

Acting, has been a “dream” since childhood, one that “felt impossible for a very long time,” Carys Daniels says.

She’s recently been on a south west tour with Greedy Pig Theatre and their brand new show My Dad: The Woman, The Myth, The Legend. The play – written by Rhys Myhill – explores family dynamics and the transgender experience.

Daniels excelled as Mia, giving an incredible performance.

Douglas Murdoch, one of the co-founders of the theatre company describes her as an “incredibly strong and giving actor, delivering performances that not only showcase her immense talent, but also uplift the cast she collaborates with.”

Carys has now been given the chance to study at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School on its MA in Screen Acting programme. It’s an “incredible opportunity” she says.

Despite having taken out a student loan, saved through work and applying for scholarships, she is still short of the finance needed to cover the remaining tuition fees.

The cost of theatre tuition and training has been a problematic barrier in the UK for some time. It’s caused a lack of representation and inclusion for diverse communities within the profession.

Bristol-based Carys has been working hard at making the city more safe and inclusive for trans people by launching Safe Space Bristol this year.

The movement calls upon Bristol businesses to show they are a safe space for trans people after the Supreme Court ruling in April.

More than 800 businesses across the country have now signed up to the scheme – over 150 in Bristol alone. It’s not a lip service. Businesses must agree to a ‘Safe Space Pledge’.

Carys is determined to ensure her MA in Screen Acting at the city’s world leading theatre school will “strengthen” her ability to tell stories that “matter” reaching wider audiences.

Trans+ On Screen called the master’s degree ‘crucial’ not only for pursing her acting career, but as a “step towards getting more deserving trans talent in front of the camera.”

Carys is due to start on the course this coming September. She’s launched a Go Fund Me to help cover the remaining costs.

“I know this is a big ask, and I’ve already explored every other avenue since receiving my offer in April,” she says.

“Every contribution, no matter the size, brings me closer to this opportunity.

“Your generosity means the world and will help me fulfill a dream I once thought impossible.”
